| Dear Parents
Please make note of the following items:
Harvest Festival Sunday 27th September
Children and teachers have been preparing for our participation
in the Harvest Festival in church this coming Sunday. It
is one of the main services we attend as a school during
the Church/School year and it is important that all the children
attend if possible. Children are asked to wear school uniform
and be at church by 11am.
Children are also invited
to bring a harvest gift such as a small box or a basket,
a plant or a bunch of flowers. There
will be a collection for the Harvest Charity which this year
is the AFIA (Away from it all) appeal. This is a Mother’s
Union charity which sends families that are under pressure
for a break at the sea-side and many of them go to a caravan
at Primrose Valley at Filey. This facility has been well
used with families from rural areas as well as those from
the inner city using it. Our church and school were the first
parish in the Diocese to contribute to the first caravan
appeal about 10 years ago and a new caravan is now needed.
Everyone is invite to a
Jacob’s join lunch after the
service. If for any reason your child is not able to attend
the service, would you please let me know as soon as possible.
On Thursday 1st October
2009, your children will be receiving two cards that have
been produced by Hallmark Cards and Lancashire
Fire and Rescue Service. The cards are being handed out to
celebrate UK Older Person’s Day.
Hallmark Cards and Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service have
formed a partnership which will see the cards contain a fire
safety message that will hopefully persuade older people
to receive a free Home Fire Safety Check to make them safer
in their homes. The children will be asked to write a message
in the card and then give them out to grandparents, great-grandparents
or older family friends over the age of 60. This age group
is being targeted as statistically they are more vulnerable
to fire. We hope that you will encourage the children to
hand out these cards as the fire safety advice that Lancashire
Fire and Rescue Service personnel will provide, could help
save a life. I hope all our children can participate in this
worthwhile and unusual idea.
Yours sincerely
Mr D Lloyd
