B-by-B  C of E Primary School -
Newsletter dated 25 May 2008

Dear Parents

As we approach half term there is much to report on and to look forward to. Please visit our school office for dates and events for next term and important information for parents of Year5/6 children who will be going on the trip to Whitehough. May I take this opportunity to thank everyone in our school community for the support show to me personally over the last two terms and for all we do in school. Have a most enjoyable half term holiday.

Sporting chance!
Our children have been taking part in a whole range of sporting opportunities over the last few weeks. Mondays have seen most of the children active after school – some on their way to Grindleton to take part in Cheerleading, others attending football practice. Mrs Towler is busy preparing the children for forthcoming cross country and rounders events and at the time of writing our rounders team is excitedly awaiting a visit from Grindletons team for a match (Thursday).

Orienteering
In the third week of term we took a year 3/4 team and a year 5/6 team up to Gisburn Primary school for the small schools orienteering competition. After many weeks hard practice the children thoroughly enjoyed the day, especially using the electronic version of orienteering markers and recorders.

Mad Scientists
The Mad Science sessions have been a great success and the children have had the opportunity to carry out investigations across a range of science topics. Photographs have been taken each week and have been presented in a booklet in school for visitors to browse through.

Year 5/6 trip to Whitehough (18th – 20th June)
Mrs Walmsley and Mrs Towler will be holding a “drop in” session after school on Tuesday 10th June to provide any extra information you may feel you need or answer any queries. Please also find attached important information, a suggested clothing list and a medical consent form.

“Chocs Away”
The staff and children have had a “foody week”. Monday saw the children making quiches and salads, Tuesday was our visit to Cocomoyo to make and taste chocolate then on to Little Town Dairies in Longridge to see how yoghurts are made. All the children made their own chocolate lollipops complete with edible school badge. On Wednesday the whole school visited Booths supermarket to see how the food we had seen being made on Tuesday is packaged and sold in shops. The children had a great time tasting even more food!

A big thank you to F.O.B.B.S. for paying for the minibus and to all the parents who helped with transport.

The Olympics come to Bolton by Bowland
Well sort of (it’s still in Beijing). We will be working on an exciting Olympic topic next term which will culminate in an Olympic Sports Day. Watch out for information about the many different activities we have planned. If you have any useful resources, contacts that would help us, please let us know.

Tesco Vouchers
Tesco computers for schools vouchers have now stopped being issued at stores. Could you please send in any that you may still have as the deadline for orders is in a few weeks?
