All Key Stage 2
children have a homework diary. Any homework they receive
is written in this diary along with the day it is due to
be handed in at school. These books are taken home each day
and brought back to school on the following day.
Key Stage 2 children will usually have a spelling list and
times tables to learn each week. In addition to this they
may be given an English task and/or maths task.
Occasionally homework may be given from other areas of the
curriculum (science, history, geography). This will usually
be finding out information or research type of work to help
the children find out more about topics being discussed in
class. This will all be written in homework diaries.
Essential homework for all children is to read at home each
night. This may take the form of reading high frequency words
on cards, reading books from a reading scheme or reading
own choice books at an appropriate level. Children should
be encouraged to practise their reading for a short time
each day. If the child is now an independent reader they
should write the pages or chapters they have read in their
homework diaries.
If the child is not yet an independent reader parents are
asked to please try and find time to listen to them read
each day and write comments in their reading record book.
