Maths and Literacy homework will be given on Fridays to
be completed by the following Friday. This will usually consist
of a list of spellings to learn and a maths activity linked
to the work done in class during the week.
In addition to this Mrs
Eidsforth or Mrs Walmsley may give homework, often in the
form of ‘finding out’ or ‘bringing
in to school’, for the other subjects they teach in
the Junior Class.
We consider homework to
be much more than a written activity or sheet to be completed
each week and would encourage you
to discuss and encourage your child on a daily basis in ‘everyday’ activities
which will help with progress in school.
With this letter is an information sheet about ways you
can help your child in maths in his/her particular year group
and includes activities such as calculating shopping bills,
mental arithmetic and telling the time. If there is anything
in the maths booklet that needs clarification please call
into school for more details.
Also please encourage your child to read at home (every
day if possible). If your child is a fluent reader then discuss
the plot or characters with them to improve their comprehension
skills. The Junior children read fiction and non-fiction
books in school and we like them to take them home to share
with you. They must remember however to bring them to school
every day as they read in class each day.
During certain times of
the year the older Juniors will be given more ‘formal’ homework
in preparation for SATS or for those interested in taking
the Clitheroe
Grammar entrance examinations.
We would also encourage you to work with your child on their
individual Maths and English targets which were on their
end of year reports. This may include handwriting practice
or learning key spellings or multiplication tables. Please
call into school if you need help with this.
SO IF YOUR CHILD TELLS
YOU THAT HE/SHE HAS NO HOMEWORK – IGNORE
THEM – THERE IS ALWAYS SOMETHING THEY CAN DO!
