The Third Annual Bolton-by-Bowland Sloe Gin Competition was hosted by Colin and Anne Darlington at Greenside Cottage in the village, on Friday 28th December, 2007, amid huge controversey. Decisions made by the organisers will reverberate around the village for years. Without reference to the contestants or to the huge following, a lady, Jo, was appointed to be one of the four judges. As one of the contestants was heard to mutter into his glass 'I never, ever thought I would see that in the Bolton-by-Bowland sloe gin contest'. No matter, Jo and her fellow judges, Chairman Harris, Geoff and Tony judged 14 entries to find the 2007 Supreme Champion. They selected Malcolm Smith's as the finest sloe gin of the year, followed by Graham Greenwood, bridesmaid for the second year and with Eddie White in third position.
