The Second Annual Bolton-by-Bowland Sloe Gin Competition was hosted by Colin and Anne Darlington at Greenside Cottage in the village, on Thursday 28th December, 2006.

The judges were Allan Clements (Chairman), Iain Harris, and Tony Metcalfe. There were around 20 entries, and the rules were simple - the sloe gin had to be made from sloes collected in 2006 from around the village. The judges took their work very seriously, judging on taste, clarity, colour. There was a separate 'shepherd's pie' competition, judged by Anne Darlington.
