On a pitch which has been graced by the best in the land, Bolton’s best put Hurst Green to the sword. This season the team’s regulars supported by ever improving youngsters have played better than ever and it is perhaps because Jono, our new man from the Mews, sets a high standard on and off the field for others to emulate. Jono bowled eight overs taking one wicket for 16 following on from fine performances by Stephen Booth and Joe Bunyan with the ball which left Hurst Green at 47 for 3 after 20 overs. Game on and the chairman began to mutter to himself (the rest of the team were in the field and with Geoff unable to make the game he was on his own) about the possibility of him scoring a first win for Bolton at Stonyhurst. Ryan Kelly, Iain Harris and skipper Reynolds, sprinting like a Gazelle to run out Hurst Green danger man Royle, finished the job and restricted the home side to 136

Joe and Nigel Bunyan put on 92 for the first wicket and although Jono failed with the bat for once, Chris Seed and Iain Harris reached the target with nearly 5 overs to spare and 7 wickets left. Keith White’s dive and Phil Smalley’s ever improving performance behind the stumps both contributed to the win. What a way to welcome Mark Carlton back to the side?
